WestLink Business GPRS/Data Services WestLink announces new data plans for PDA (smart phones) and laptop computers. WestLink Data Plans and Service Packages allow customers to match their data capacity needs and their budget. All WestLink Data Plans and data service packages include nationwide data coverage. Check your email, visit your company webpage or surf the NET anywhere you and your smart phone go in the WestLink nationwide network.

WestLink PDA (smart phone) data plans

  • $30.00 per month - Unlimited Nationwide Data per month for Heavy Users
  • $20.00 per month - 40 Meg per month Nationwide Data for Medium Users.
    • 1 cent per kilobyte overage charges
  • $10.00 per month - 20 Meg per month Nationwide Data for Light Users.
    • 1 cent per kilobyte overage charges
WestLink smart phones data plans require a smart phone, a voice plan with roaming enabled. PDA data plans require voice service. Adding or changing a data plan on an existing service line does not affect contract length. Purchasing a subsidized smart phone does affect contract length. Restrictions apply see store for details.

DATA SIZE EXAMPLES

The examples below will provide you an idea of data usage. Attachment sizes will vary dramatically.
  • 1K - Sending or receiving a basic 1 to 4-sentence email without attachments.
  • 2K - Forwarding that simple 1 to 4 sentence email to another person.
  • 12K - Sending or receiving a very simple 11 cell by 9 cell spreadsheet.
  • 40K - Sending or receiving the latest cartoon copy.
  • 80K - Sending or receiving an email with a couple page text document.
  • 85K - Sending or receiving a screen image of a webpage.
  • 130K - Viewing a web page in condensed format
  • 185K - Sending or receiving a 5 Page PDF Document
  • 280K - Viewing a typical Webpage in standard version format
  • 500K - Sending or receiving an email with 10 Joke Pictures included.
  • 3,000K - Sending or Receiving the funny joke video. (3Meg)

WestLink offers data plans and packages to fit a variety of data users.
The amount of data that you use each month will be presented on your bill. To avoid data overage charges, we recommend that you start with the unlimited data plan. You can then monitor your usage monthly and make changes if needed. The above data size examples are estimates and may not match your usage. Attachments to emails may increase the size of an email dramatically.

Usage Examples

  • Light user
    • So for example, you download (sync) your email 4 times a day. You generally have 40 basic emails in your inbox. You generally send 5 emails when you sync. So you are syncing (sending or receiving) 45 1k emails per day. You will use 900k each week during a 5-day workweek. Your monthly average would then be somewhere around 3,600k of data usage or 3.6 Meg per month. The 5 Meg PDA plan would fit your needs perfectly. You would have 2.4Meg of data usage left over for the larger than average emails and additional attachments.
  • Medium User
    • You download (sync) your email the same as the user above, but you send attachments occasionally and check your company webpage a once a day. You generally have 40 basic emails and send emails with attachments. Downloading your email will take 1,100k each week. Checking your website will use 1,200k per week. This type of usage is approximately 9,200k per month or 9.2 Meg. The 10 Meg plan will meet your needs.
  • Heavy User
    • Email is very important to your daily routine. You want to keep connected and will sync your email often during the day. You will also send and receive many daily emails. You also check web pages frequently. The unlimited plan will meet your needs.
